What happened?
- Marc crashed on Lap 1, and Alex followed shortly after.
- A red flag was waved after a separate crash involving factory Ducati rider.
- Since the leader hadn’t completed three full laps, the race was nullified and had to be restarted from scratch.
Why were the crashed riders allowed to restart?
According to MotoGP rules:
- Article 1.25.2: If fewer than three laps are completed by the leader, the race is declared void and restarted.
- Article 1.26.4: In such a case, all riders, even those who crashed or missed the sighting lap, are eligible to restart. Bikes can also be repaired or changed, and refuelling is allowed.
Final result:
- Marc Marquez finished 3rd,
- Alex Marquez came 5th,
- Marco Bezzecchi won after Fabio Quartararo dropped out due to a ride-height device issue.
- Marc had a thrilling battle with Franco Morbidelli to grab the final podium spot.
The rule gave the Marquez brothers a rare second chance—and they made it count.
